Not in best interest of child

    28-04-2014 by Naiomi

I enrolled my 6month old daughter in the class that was advised by gymbaroo, paid the terms fees upfront, where she was expected to lay on the ground with 6 week old babies for tummy time. When I requested for her to be moved up to the next class (where I, her mother, thought she would more benefit from watching children 12months+ playing) my request was rejected. On requesting a refund on my fees, again I was rejected and told that my daughter (who was crawling and walking along furniture) would benefit from participating in tummy time with tiny babies, and therefore would not be getting any money back. Waste of time and money, they're obviously more interested in making money than helping babies develop

Answer from Gymbaroo Illawarra on 20-05-2015:
Thank you for your feedback, we always welcome parents contacting us directly with their concerns and we have always been able to allay them, either by moving a child into another class if appropriate, or assisting parents in involving their child in age-appropriate activities during class. Baby classes are specifically designed for babies who are not yet walking. It is not considered neurologically appropriate to include crawling babies in a “walking” class (the next age group up) as we do not wish to encourage babies to be hurried through the essential developmental stages of crawling and creeping. Our program is not about “watching” but about active movement as this is how the brain is stimulated and developed. That is why we suggested staying in a class where the baby exercises, dance, movement and equipment activities are all specially designed for the active play of non-walking babies. Tummy time exercises and activities are really very helpful for all babies developing visual skills, coordination, motor patterns, and body awareness, even if a baby is crawling and cruising. There are also lots of activities in our baby class that enable the mobile baby to get lots of active movement – dance, ladders to creep over/under/through, swings, slides, rollers, trampolines – the list goes on! If you wish to return to class we are more than willing to help you understand more about the activities that you can do with your baby in the age appropriate class.
