Each Friday morning during the term we have a 30-min music class followed by an hour of free play. Children and their carers participate in the music class together. Each class is structured to include singing, moving to music, exploring percussion instruments, and listening to a bible story. We ask parents to bring morning tea for their children, and grown-ups are invited to have a cuppa and relax while the children play. Kids Up Front run after school drama classes for children throughout the North Shore, Ryde, Inner West and Hills District in Sydney. Our after school drama lessons for junior students (Kindy to Year 2) participate in a themed lesson performed for each other each week. Our senior students (Year 3 +) develop performance skills in the first half of the year through improvisation drama games and scene work. In the second half of the year they collaborate with their teacher on a group devised piece to be performed at a real theatre. For many of our students this is the highlight of their year as they shine on stage in front of a live audience. Working together in drama means listening to each other and accepting and extending each others ideas thus helping children develop good social skills and confidence in presenting their own ideas. Developing confidence, creativity and communication skills are very important life skills whatever path in life they choose to take. Music is so much more than just playing an instrument. The music skills of listening, understanding, creating and enjoying music play a key role in a child’s development and should be experienced by all children. Using action songs, body percussion, story-telling and guided listening activities, our teacher will engage your child in a musical world that can lead to a life enriched by music. Term starts Saturday 3rd May or Wednesday 7th May, and will run for 8 weeks. Open to students aged 3-10, the Kids at the Con classes serve as a fantastic introduction to music class where students are engaged and are free to explore their musical creativity in a welcoming and non-competitive environment. No prior experience necessary!
