Call to book your child into the correct classes. Classes are paid by semester but work out $30 per class. Please understand children do not have one off classes. This 9-week Teen Acting Course is aimed at aspiring actors from 10-16 years who desire a professional career in the entertainment industry. Dubbed 'the technique that works'; young actors will be taught an organic, step-by-step approach to acting called 'Meisner Technique'. This is a class that teaches performance skills. Every student is placed in a scene, (or possibly two scenes), which they rehearse throughout class time. This is done under expert guidance, and the teacher directs the scene for you. After the initial classes, there is a short performance season in THE MELBOURNE COMEDY FESTIVAL. We enter the festival as a Recreational Group of Performers, so no prior experience is required. However, this course is also suitable for those who do have some prior experience. It is possible that students could start this course a couple of weeks late, pending availability of spaces. However, this is a very popular program and usually fills. This class is open to those 18 and over who wish to simply have fun while learning drama. There are no expectations to reach a certain standard of acting and the class is open to beginners. Drama Classes benefit recreational students in the following ways - Provides a safe, nurturing environment to explore one's creativity - Offers an insight into what professional actors do. (For those who are interested) - Provides a space to meet with like-minded people and make new friends. - Offers great skills for anyone who needs to do upfront presentation as part of their work. - Provides one of the best forms of stress release available for adults! - Gives you a weekly opportunity to have loads of fun without expected outcomes. Students will learn - Improvisation (coming up with ideas on your feet, along with others) - Voice work (will naturally be incorporated into the class, without being a formal aspect) - Movement - not dance, but movement in terms of character movement - Script work. Later in the term/year, students will work on short scenes together. There is no pressure to learn these scenes- it's entirely up to you! - Increases confidence and self-esteem for shyer course participants. - Offers a free environment for outgoing personalities. - A starting point for anyone thinking about taking acting further at a later stage. Students in this class have the benefit of being taught by a veteran actors of stage, screen and TV, who is also an experienced acting teacher. He teaches in a gentle, safe manner that is ideal for anyone who needs to experience greater confidence. This is a class runs every Wednesday in Kew from 4pm - 6pm. during term time. In Term 4 the children will also take part in a low-key performance for friends and family. Students will learn the skills of drama in a fun, nurturing, supportive environment. Subjects will include - Improvisation Voice work Character work Movement - (not dance as such, but in terms of how characters move) Script work Self-devised scripted work Some filming Playmaking The teacher has an extensive background in theatre and is also a fully qualified primary school teacher. Time: 4pm - 6pm There really is no booking deadline as such, as these are ongoing weekly classes that are held during term times. You can join at any time during the term and we will pro-rata your fee. Advanced Youth Drama (10-17yrs) The advanced Acting course for teens, is specifically designed for those that have a passion, drive & an enthusiasm for Acting. The course is only open to those with previous experience, and all students must pass through the audition process to gain a place in this course. Auditions are held twice a year. All students must attend 80% of all classes and be prepared to make a two-term commitment. Please take time to consider your own circumstances carefully before auditioning for the course. This class is recognition of talent and dedication by the participants, but cannot be taken as a stand-alone class. All participants must make a commitment to Point Break Drama, and agree to continue in at least one other Youth acting class, at Point Break Drama to qualify. Please note the course fee includes a second course ( to be selected). A fun and exciting exploration into the world of drama & acting for children (7-9yrs). Children will be introduced to the fundamentals of performance & acting technique through creative play, improvisation, movement & teamwork. Watch your child extend and expand their creative capabilities & become confident performers. Each term your child will participate in an end of term presentation of their acting work, utilizing the skills they have been learning in class. From term 1 Children will be encouraged to express their unique personalities through the use of Improvisation training, before moving into script work, basic script analysis & short plays in terms 2 & 3. All children are taught acting by professional actors with teaching expertise at Point Break Drama. No experience required to participate. This is a weekly drama class for teenagers aged 12- 17. It takes place in Kew on Thursdays from 5.15pm - 7.15pm during term time. Students will be performing a play this term. The subjects that are covered in this course include: Voice Movement (Not dance as such, but movement for characters) Character work Improvisation Script work Some script devising Devising stories and short plays based on a theme. Pending space availability, it may be possible to take students later in the term, however early booking is advised. This high energy ten-week Acting course is designed specifically for Teenagers, & offers participants the opportunity to explore the different aspects of Acting & improvisation in a fun & spontaneous environment. Teens will learn basic Stanislavski acting technique, giving participants a myriad of acting & presentation skills. Work with one of Australia's top casting directors, Leigh Pickford. The course is specifically designed to improve actors understanding of the industry and audition process, whilst having the opportunity to confront the emotional demands of auditioning by performing a scene and reading against each other. It offers actors a longer format class, with more immediate opportunities to hone their audition technique whilst creating an intimate relationship with the casting director at Maura Fay.
