As a professional face painter, I use strict hygiene practices and these have been stepped up during the Covid pandemic:
- I use a clean sponge for every face, and used sponges are washed at high temperatures in my washing machine to ensure that they are clean before their next use.
- My rinsing water is refreshed regularly and I use only clean water to activate my paints. Face paint does contain an antibacterial agent.
- I rinse my brushes in soap and water between each person and in isopropyl alcohol if I have painted close to noses, lips or eyes. All brushes are sterilised at the end of the day.
- I clean my hands regularly with hand sanitiser.
- I do not paint anyone who has medical conditions such as cold sores, psoriasis, open wounds, broken skin, conjunctivitis or other eye infections, runny nose, cough, infected skin or headlice.
