Hi, my name is Barbara. I've trained for many years at the Newport Club, and also previously at Richard's previous club, Moonee Valley Judo Club. I gained my Black Belt (First Dan), in 2012.
I really enjoy training at Newport for quite a few reasons, but the main ones are are the relaxed family atmosphere combined with the traditions of Judo itself. Jigaro Kano, the great man who put Judo together, was a progressive and creative man. This is still very evident in Judo today. The general standard of Martial Arts in Australia is very high and safely conducted, but this is particularly true of Judo. Judo has also always welcomed women and children, both overseas and here in Australia. If you train at the Newport Judo, it does not matter if you are training mainly to keep fit or as a serious competitor. You will be catered for. Also, if you are female, there are a number of girls and women training at the moment. Judo also has a long and interesting history and is quite artistic. Come along and find out while getting fit!
