I started coming to Playhouse when my little boy was 18 months old and I was expecting my second child. I felt at home and relaxed, when I had my new baby, my son could play happily while I could comfortably feed my baby. So it was great for all of us. That was over 6 years ago and now I attend with my third child who loves it! I have mad many friends and connections at Playhouse. There isn't anywhere else like it. Alison Quinn (Reciprocal Care)

I highly recommend Wendy Brentnall as a music teacher. She has inspired my son by encouraging him in a positive way. So much so that he frequently goes and practises without being asked. I have referred others to have lessons with her as well. She is a highly organised and skilled teacher.

    Guitar Lessons

    16-02-2015 by Stuart CROSS

On retirement from work I promised myself that I would learn how to play the guitar which is something I had been thinking about for years. I was fortunate that I chose Wendy's Music School. My tutor,Scott, has assisted me greatly with clear, informative lessons and has also shown the necessary patience with me. I appreciate the fact that there is no pressure and Scott's calming influence has been most beneficial. I'm looking forward to many years playing my guitar and thank Wendy and Scott for their input. The saying "You are never too old to learn" is so true.

My son has been learning piano from Wendy for more than one year, and he loves it so much! Wendy is an amazing teacher and obviously has a lot of experiences of teaching young kids. She has been passionate, patient and very helpful. I have recommended her to my son's friend as well and the little boy absolutely loves her lesson too. Thanks Wendy for all the efforts you put to build up the interest of my son in playing piano and in enjoying music!

    WENDY’S MUSIC – TESTIMONIAL

    11-02-2015 by Wendy

When my 9-year old daughter Isabella showed an interest in taking up piano, Wendy Brentnall was recommended to me as a teacher who was patient, fun and skilled. Wendy is a gifted pianist and instructor whose passion for music inspires audiences and students alike. Over the past 12 months she has identified and nutured Isabella’s musical strengths and used this enthusiasm to address some of the more challenging areas of music theory. Wendy has truly connected with Isabella by tailoring her teaching methods to where she knows will keep Isabella’s interest. Her ability to use a range of tools (including iPhone apps), insight and a sense of humor to teach and instil her methods is truly impressive to watch. She also makes learning piano fun and interesting by allowing Isabella to choose some of her own pieces, and by using rewards to give her a sense of accomplishment. She even engages Isabella in timely challenges – from her first Piano Preparatory Exam (with a Final score of 100%) to the Christmas concert – to give her the skills and confidence needed with her instrument! Over the last year, she has also inspired and motivated Isabella to strive for new goals in her playing repertoire! Wendy has helped my daughter to appreciate the joy of piano playing, confidently understand music theory and, most importantly, enjoy music and love to go to lessons! Her piano playing is a welcome addition to our home and it is lovely to hear the progress she continues to make under Wendy’s instruction. Wendy is a gifted and enthusiastic teacher and I would highly recommend her as a piano teacher capable of helping your child develop a love for music, self-confidence and an understanding of the dedication and practice necessary to do well with their chosen instrument. – Sarah Riitano, Parent

My son James has been attending Lantern League for nearly 2 years and JUST LOVES IT. A little shy at Primary School, Lantern League has allowed his inner self to shine and this has resulted in a confident , young man, who feels much more comfortable voicing his opinions. As a result of Lantern League and the way the students are taught, James won an impromptu speaking award last year out of a minimum of 100 participating students. 4 reasons hip hop dancers should take a ballet class

When I was growing up, dancing was a consistent part of my life but there was little room in my schedule or my heart for ballet. I took class for a year or two here and there but never with the consistent and disciplined attitude of an A+ ballet student. Upwey Tae Kwon Do

    14-06-2017 by Saul

I train at Upwey Rhee TKD side by side with my 9 yo son. There's not a lot of sports where you can do this which is one of the things we both love about it - however it doesn't stop there. The people we train with are great, the instructors are great all combined with some excellent messaging about self control and respect. We're only just getting established in our training routine, however I already notice some great physical and mental benefits. One of the aims of the training is to get your brain and body working in sync with each other - it amazes me how much of a challenge this actually is - but I think I'm getting there. In conclusion, I can't recommend it highly enough and hopefully my son and I will both be training there for many years to come.

Answer from Upwey Tae Kwon Do and Self Defence on 16-06-2017:
It is always pleasing to know that students are "getting it" and seeing the benefits, both for them as individuals but also as a family.

Great activity for kids and adults

    09-02-2016 by Jess Brown

Tae kwon Do helps people to develop flexibility, strength and coordination in a fun, low-pressure way. Upwey Tae Kwon Do teachers are knowledgeable and patient. Well-worth the experience for kids and adults alike.

Answer from Upwey Tae Kwon Do and Self Defence on 19-05-2016:
Besides the physical benefits of exercise, by training together often as a family, both children and adults learn that respect is a two-way street. This reinforces respect all round and boosts self confidence as the usual power hierarchy between adults and children is not relevant in our martial art.

Upwey Tae Kwon Do and Self Defense

This has been the best activity my son has ever been involved with. Excellent mentoring and teaching . My son developed great confidence in himself as well as learning new skills.

Answer from Upwey Tae Kwon Do and Self Defence on 19-05-2016:
Self confidence in children, especially teenagers, will help them to resist negative peer pressure and thus make them safer. Regular training in a safe non-competitive environment will boost their confidence as they learn. This is compared to a competitive environment which disadvantages those who cannot keep up with others, often resulting in a lowering of self confidence.

How to help your kid find their balance in life

There are many ways in which we try to balance our busy lives, and keeping a balance between our physical, mental and spiritual selves is an important start to maintaining overall balance in life. In nature, the equilateral triangle is one of the most stable and strongest of shapes. Maintaining an equal balance between the physical, spiritual and mental aspects of our lives goes a long way to maintaining feelings of balance and control in our life. Plus, the earlier we create good balance the ...

Self defence for kids - recognising danger

We all want to ensure the safety of our children but keeping them safe can be a 24/7 job and there's only so much we can do as parents or carers. This is why it's important to help empower our children to take responsibility for their own safety at all times. The keyword here is to empower your child - you want to find a balance where they don't have to constantly feel as though they're worrying about any potential danger. One of the ways we can ease the load off ourselves is by teaching our c...

How to raise brave kids - that understand FEAR

When confronted by someone or an unusual event we are often surprised by our body's reaction, often interpreted as 'Fear'. At a physiological level our body is dumped with adrenalin which makes our muscles ready to fight or flee from any perceived attack or stressful situation, that is our 'fight' or 'flight' instinct. These two primordial responses are most obvious in children who will run away or lash out when stressed. But as we grow older our response is often overridden by our 'intelligent ...

Self defence: A lesson in safer living

Self Defence is much less about one's ability to fight and more about knowledge of one's self and environment. We are born with a natural instinct for survival and self-preservation but in our modern 'civilised' society much of this instinct has been conditioned out of us, particularly in women. The victim is often punished along with the perpetrator, especially as children in school when rules against ‘fighting' often punish the victim as well as the bully. We learn that standing up for oursel...
