Response to comments below

Dear unsatisfied audience member IMO, I am the Drama teacher at this facility and I am very sorry to hear your negative comments after you watched the end of year performance of The Snow Queen. The subject that you have enclosed was never discussed with the children in the way in which you describe, and the students were focused on their voice projection and stage skills and had no focus on the underlying storyline in which you have read into. The story was chosen because it is a fairytale and like most fairy tales you have ever watched, they focus on love, friendship, and include your typical stock characters and archetypes. In this performance the students were allowed to improvise the ending and I guided them towards adding their own flair to the show. I am very sorry you feel negaitvely about this, in fact, the fact that students felt confident enough up on the stage and to perform in front of an audience is a bigger achievement to our club than fancy costumes or makeup. I was proud of every single student up there on that stage and will continue to this philosophy of teaching in 2014. We hope to see you at our next production.

Subject matter a poor choice IMO

I attended The Snow Queen last weekend. I was appalled to note that body image issues, fat/thin/ugly ran through the play; unresolved, along with unrequited love(eventually requited). I also noted that Kai left Girda to go with the Snow Queen, but then went back to Girda, and the snow queen decided to marry someone because he was the best looking. Of all possible subject matter, this was deemed appropriate? Surely kids theatre (involving under 10's especially) SHOULD involve costumes, stage make up, being taught how to project your voice, helping to make sets? Isnt that a huge part of it? Sorry to be negative, but what an opportunity lost...
